Because he doesn’t C#!

I didn’t just have a chat with Marko Miloševic so I could use this awesome pun. My other goal was to find out more about his job as a Senior Java Developer at NIRI and to discover what his typical day is like and what motivates him to work hard. After a few joke exchanges with our colleagues, Marko sat down to talk to me and began his tale of success.

“My workday usually starts around 9 AM and that’s when my team has a regular Scrum meeting. We go through what we did the day before and what our next tasks will be, and that’s a great way to monitor each other and jump in if one of us needs help with something.

I’m pleased with the team atmosphere – there are moments when it varies depending on how much work we have or how stressed out we are, but in general, it’s great.

As far as my job is concerned, as a Senior Java Developer my responsibility is to follow projects carefully and to know the status of each part of a project at any given time. When it comes to the projects we’re doing now, there are usually two main parts: the part that is done in the background that the user can’t see, and the part that the user can see. So, we need to organize both front-end and back-end and both parts need to be in synch in order to make progress. It’s my responsibility to make it all work and that the product quality is top notch. I also have to make sure everything is going smoothly and that we don’t have any hiccoughs, since that can become a problem later on and we can’t constantly waste time on fixing mistakes. Another one of my responsibilities is trying to figure out who gets which task and whether or not they can be finished in time.”

“I do product performances on my own, I also have to make sure it’s all well put together. What I love about being a Senior Java Developer is the fact that I always have to be aware of new technologies and I have to keep up with them as well. That’s a very interesting aspect of my job which can be very complex sometimes, but I love when I run into a certain problem and am able to solve it successfully.  And I think that’s the most important thing about any Senior Java Developer’s job.”

“What motivates me to work and think is my surroundings which I really enjoy. The office space is great and I especially love the fact that there’s no one seated behind me! I enjoy all the activities we do here, from table tennis during the break to happy Friday when we get together and have some beer and snacks. The team building activities are also great, I enjoyed each one of them so far. We travel to the Netherlands fairly often and we also visited Venice and Seville. I gotta say, being a Senior Java Developer at NIRI definitely has its perks!”
